The simple answer – YES! The replacement cost of a new digital detector (fixed or wireless) can range from $50K – $150K depending on level of technology. Guarding against these un-wanted “replacement surprises” can be off-set by simple practices such as good staff handling/use protection (i.e. bagging).
Coverage options via the OEM generally require expensive full service agreements though some may offer variable coverage programs. Also in the market are insurance program options for detectors that allow the equipment owner a high level of latitude in maintaining their radiography equipment without having to commit to expensive full service agreements while still attaining coverage protection as well as “peace of mind” to their very expensive digital detector asset.
